Seminar Descriptions
PhoDOGraphy
A 3-session seminar designed to help you become a better
photographer, especially as it relates to taking pictures of your dog.
Each session is about 2 hours in length. The sessions include:
Session 1 -- Getting to Know Your Camera. (No dogs at
this session). Bring your camera, manuals and accessories and we'll
help you to understand the meaning of all those buttons and dials and bells
and whistles, so you can have better control over your equipment.
Discover some of the hidden secrets of all those doo-dads in order to
maximize the control you never knew you had at your fingertips.
Session 2 -- Principles of Photography. (No dogs at
this session). Explore the use of light, color, composition, focus,
depth of field and dozens of other concepts to learn how go make the leap
from good to GREAT photographs. Learn some techniques for setting up
the shot, how to get good candid shots, hints on getting action shots, how
to avoid common mistakes. Learn to recognize the difference
between good, great and outstanding photos.
Session 3 -- Getting your dog to cooperate. Bring your
dog to this session. Learn how to apply some of the Art of Shaping
techniques to get your dog to pose, stay, focus on a specific object or
direction. Use of target objects and other devices to achieve
attention.
Dog Scouts will learn the techniques to apply toward earning
the PhoDOGraphy Dog Scout Badge. Checkout for the badge will be
offered at a separate session.
Please note that this course is open to ANYONE who wants to
gain control over their camera, it is not exclusively for Dog Scout members.
Participants will learn techniques to apply in all types of photo-taking,
even with no dogs involved. Participants can have ANY type of camera,
from the simplest box camera or point-and-shoot camera to the most complex
SLR camera. The skills and tools can be applied to a broad range of
photographic opportunities.

HEALING POWER OF A DOG

be a therapy dog handler in various therapy settings. This is NOT a
seminar to train the dog to pass a therapy evaluation. This IS a
seminar to teach handlers about the different types of therapy and how to be

This is a 2-day seminar in
which the basics of clicker training (operant conditioning) are explained,
demonstrated, and practiced.
Learn how to use markers and
positive reinforcement techniques to teach your dog how to:

First Aid for Dogs
Produced using materials provided by the
American Red Cross, this special seminar includes hands-on experience with
dogs. Course materials include a reference book and DVD.
Successful completion of the course will
be sufficient to pass the Dog Scout First Aid badge.
Anyone wanting to earn the Dog Scout First
Aid badge should bring their dog to the course or make prior arrangements to
have the dog demonstrate the procedures successfully.
