  Update 6-13-10

9 healthy pups made their appearance Wednesday, June 9, 2010.  3 yellow girls, 3 yellow boys, 3 black boys.

Eating well, all vital signs seem stable.  The first few days are the most critical.  They have added 30-40% to their birth weight!

Eyes and ears will open in about a week.  Til then, they cannot hear or see.  They navigate by temperature and smell, especially to locate the heat lamp (if needed) and the "cafeteria".

The whole crew. Pink tone is from the heat lamp to help maintain a stable temperature

Sleeping peacefully

This one has been eating well! Note the pads, nose and ears are pink. That will darken over the next week.

Snuggling. The colored bands around the necks are to enable identification.

Feeding Frenzy.

Under the watchful eye of Mom.

Sleeping off the meal.

This guy has a crush on Lizzie

I'm ready for my closeup, Mr DeMille!

See my "eye spots" -- predators with poor vision think I'm staring at them!

Pictures from Week 1

What a difference a week makes!  The pups have at least doubled their birth weight.  They're making valiant attempts at walking.  The pigment for the nose and foot pads is darkening.  And the eye slits are becoming better defined.  Eyes and ears will open within the next week, so they will begin to respond to light and sound.

Pictures from Week 2

Growing like weeds -- most of us have tripled our birth weight in just a little over 2 weeks!  We're getting up and about more -- real attempts at walking for short distances.  Sitting up.  And practically all our eyes are open (just 3 eyes left as of Sunday 6/27.   Mom is spending less time close to the pups outside of meal and clean-up time.  Dora is really a model mom.  Keeping her pups VERY clean.

Notice how my nose pigment and the color of my pads is getting nice and black.

Things are getting a bit more crowded around the food trough!

Pictures from Week 3

WOW!  What a difference a few weeks makes!  Up on all fours, running around frenetically (check out the difference in the movies over 3 weeks), even trying to nurse standing up.  And check out the difference in crowding while nursing.  Getting to the point where Mom will not be able to keep up with their food intake -- that's when mealtime gets to be a glorious mess!

Look Mom ... I can WALK!

What's that I smell?

Look, guys ... I think I've found the way OUT!

I wonder what THAT stuff is for?

If we all slurp at once, maybe we can turn Mom inside out!

The "pump handles" (a.k.a. tails) in the air mean it's LUNCHTIME!

Hi there!

Pictures from Week 4

Can they get any cuter?  Teeth are sprouting all over.  Average weight more than 4 pounds.  They are now TROTTING around.  They have their own mini-crate both for an introduction to the crating experience as well as a quiet place to which they can retreat.  And their own Agility tunnel (PVC pipe),  More visitors -- these pups are definitely used to being handled!  And their own potty area -- a litter pan with shredded paper -- which they are learning to use.  Pink Girl visited church on Sunday.  Needless to say was an instant hit!

Good Grief -- it's getting harder and harder to find a place at the table!

A quiet moment

YUK! What was IN that stuff, anyway?!?!?!?

Practicing being cute

BORE-ing!

So 0K, does THIS look "noble" enough?

I can yell louder than YOU can!

And Check out those TEETH!

Yeah, well, I can eat your chin!

Who could say "no" to this face?

Going from the pipe -- a favorite hiding place, and the beginnings of Agility practice -- to the potty area

(Yes, they ARE being house-trained!)

Puppy-huggers! (After all that loving those guys slept VERY well!)

Pink Girl goes to church

{We like to get our pups out into public places as much as possible during their formative weeks. This socialization helps them to be better adjusted, and helps to guide decisions for the future placement of the puppy.)

Pictures from Week 5

You only need to look at the "Piranha" movie briefly to see that these little guys are lively and focused -- on FOOD!  That Miracle-Gro stuff is working overtime.  Between their pureed sogified puppy food and what they can still get from Mom they are not lacking for enthusiasm.  (They HAVE retained an attorney to argue that they are being systematically starved, but we expect the case to be dismissed as without merit -- the movie is Defense Exhibit One.)  Big trip outdoors, great time to romp and play.

Click on the following images to enlarge

We're outside! But what's this fence-y thing all about?

This place is kinda cool -- lots more space to roam.

Look mom -- the blue is almost gone from my eyes.

Wonder if I can chew through this thing?

Posing and howling.

Now THAT'S a REAL howl! (Maybe if we make enough noise someone will come to our rescue!)

Stretching our bellies on the ground is a way to stay cool.

Bright-eyed and gloriously happy Ms Pink.

Wow, all this running around can tire a puppy out. Can you guys keep it down so we can take our siesta?

Pictures from Week 7

The pups are getting ready to greet their new families and move on to a new life.  In preparation for this transition, they have posed for their formal portraits.  They have visited the veterinary ophthalmologist and received clearances for certification as having no evidence of any potential eye problems.

Pictures from Week 8

It's time to "leave the nest" and go to the puppies' new homes.  These puppies will be moving in with families throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey. (The adoptive homes were selected from about 80 applications from about 10 states.)  As the puppies meet their families we'll try to capture a picture as a memento of the beginning of their new lives together.  These pups are going to get LOTS of loving!
