  1-14-11

8 healthy pups made their appearance Friday, January 14, 2011.  6 boys, 2 girls, all yellow.

Eating well, all vital signs stable.  The first few days are the most critical.  They have no lack of appetite, and already "the choir is practicing", as they sing for their supper ... and lunch ... and breakfast ... and brunch ... and snacks ... and ...

Eyes and ears will open in about 2 weeks.  Til then, they cannot hear or see.  They navigate by temperature and smell, especially to locate the heat lamp (if needed) and the "cafeteria".

Picture from Birth-Day

Pictures from Week 1

These pics were taken when they were about a week old.  The pups have at least doubled their birth weight.  They're making valiant attempts at walking.  The pigment for the nose and foot pads is darkening.  And the eye slits are becoming better defined.  Eyes and ears will open within the next week, so they will begin to respond to light and sound.

Pictures from Week 3

Our eyes are (mostly) open.  Ears should be open in a few days.  We're responding to light and will soon be able to focus on things.  And we're making increasingly more successful attempts at walking.  Pretty soon we'll be trotting all over the place.  And we Looooooooooooooooove to be held.  And cuddled.  Our volunteer "puppy huggers" are getting their puppy fix big time.  We still spend most of our time sleeping, but even then we're moving constantly.  (We dream about chasing bunnies -- even though we have no clue what a "bunny" is!)

Pictures from Week 5

WOW!  Trying to keep up with these guys is a challenge.  They are growing so fast.  And they are entertaining sometimes more than 50 humans per WEEK!  Lots of activity.  Responding to being called.  Trying to escape the whelping area.  And they LOOOOOOOVE to cuddle.  And have bellies rubbed.  Getting into real food.  And tearing around with blinding speed (relatively speaking!).  If you're gonna visit don't wait.  'Cuz soon they will be off to their new homes.

Pictures from Week 6

We're trying out the kitchen floor.  And boy, does it feel really good.  Can you believe it -- in two weeks we're actually gonna be leaving!  Gee, I'm gonna miss my brothers and sisters, but I'll get over that.

Can anyone tell which is the REAL puppy?

HERE I am!

Pictures from Week 7

Wow, do we look different from 7 weeks ago!  We put on our best furs for our formal portraits so we can impress the people we're going to live with.  Here we are, give-or-take at about 6 pounds, doing our "cute thing".   We're gonna miss romping with one another, but we're told there's a lot of love where we're going.  Maybe we'll get back together at a reunion some day.  Thanks, "Mom", ya done good!

Pictures from Week 8 and Beyond

We're heading out into the world with our new families.  Lots of love here, you can see it in the eyes of the humans we have adopted.  We're looking forward to lots of hugs, and walks, and snuggles, and retrieving anything our sharp eyes see out there.  We'll miss our litter mates, but we're sure our families will introduce us to other puppies at classes, in our neighborhoods and as we venture out to new opportunities beyond our imaginations.  Hopefully some day we'll see our brothers and sisters, and Mom, and lots of other relatives, at a Reunion.  Til then, we love you all.
